To some, the word “switchgear” might conjure
up images of large, manually-operated switches. At IEE, we
know that modern electrical distribution components enable
us to design automatic switchgear that is intelligent, and
that can dramatically improve the reliability of our customer’s
electrical power. Modern electrical switchgear can apply technologies
such as microprocessors, the internet and GPS timing to yield
dramatically enhanced capabilities. These new technologies
can allow your facility’s switchgear to automatically
make decisions that can keep the lights on or save on energy
costs, as well as protect your system and employees in the
event of an electrical system fault.
We call this concept Intelligent Power Switching (IPS).
IPS can locate and isolate an electrical fault, reconfiguring
the electrical power distribution system accordingly, to limit
the extent of an outage.
As the sale of electrical power is de-regulated, IPS can
also offer our customers the ability to select between two
or more utility power sources, based on cost.
